July 20, 2018 - The Department of Health (DOH) today commemorates the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 361, which culminates on the birthdate of the sublime paralytic, Apolinario Mabini, on July 23.
This event focuses on the theme, “Kaalaman at Kasanayan Para sa Kabuhayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” which aims to increase public awareness on disability and encourage every citizen to share the responsibility of uplifting the economic and social conditions of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
A forum entitled, “Health and Social Services for PWDs,” is slated today to be participated by government organizations, non-government organizations, local government units and persons with disabilities and their organizations.
Topics for discussion include health program and key mandates on disability, auxiliary social services for PWDs, Employees Compensation Commission, PhilHealth enrollment and Z Benefits for PWDs. Topics on contracting health care institutions for benefits, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) medical assistance program, and translating the health and social services for PWDs are also included.
Different resource persons from relevant agencies such as DOH, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Department of Social Welfare and Development, PCSO, National Council on Disability Affairs and the Employees Compensation Commission are set to speak on the said topics.
“We fully recognize the positive contributions persons with disabilities can make in the community that will benefit the country as a whole. Given the proper orientation and opportunities, PWDs certainly can be empowered to participate as active citizens contributing to the betterment of society and the development of the economy,” Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III concluded.
